National Scottish Charity – Chair and Trustees
Our client is looking to appoint a new independent Chair as well as a number of external Trustees as part of recommendations from an independent governance review. One of the key recommendations was the need to create a new Board that has the relevant skills, experience and capabilities to provide strategic leadership and effective governance of the organisation.
We are seeking a skilled and experienced leader, with a strong knowledge of governance, who can provide strategic leadership to the Board of Trustees and the Senior Management Team.
Part leader, part ambassador, you will foster effective working relationships between the Board and the Senior Management Team and help to develop the organisation’s profile and representation with a broad range of stakeholders across civic Scotland.
You will have proven experience and understanding of governance gained from previous Chair roles and a commitment to ensuring trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities.
The Chair will be appointed for a term of 3 years, and is eligible to seek nomination to serve a further 3-year term. You will be required to attend approximately 6 Board meetings annually. In addition to Board meetings, the Chair must be able to visit offices, be available to the CEO on a regular basis and attend other meetings and events as necessary. This is likely to require a commitment of around 2-3 days per month on average.
We are seeking committed trustees with a range of personal and business attributes to help set the strategic direction of the organisation.
Together with the rest of the trustees, you will have a key responsibility in governing and providing strategic leadership by ensuring that the organisation has a clear vision and mission; and that the strategy is executed by the management team to deliver improved outcomes for citizens.
You will have a sense of leadership and a commitment to carry out the duties of a Trustee with an ability to exercise judgement and work collectively. You will be prepared to offer personal and business skills and experience to support the work of the staff as and when required. A commitment and understanding of the aims and principles of the service is desirable, as well as understanding of the ways in which the organisation can exercise influence on the development of social policy.
We are seeking suitably qualified individuals with significant senior level experience in at least one of the following areas:
• Strategy Development
• Accounting / Audit / Finance
• Human Resources
• Information Technology / Digital Transformation
• Communications / Marketing and PR
• Social Policy
• Government Relations
Trustees are appointed for a term of 3 years and are eligible to seek nomination to serve a further 3-year term after which they must retire from the Board. You will be required to attend approximately 6 Board meetings annually. In addition to Board meetings, you may be required to devote at least 1 day per month on average.
