SQA – Chair

We are looking to appoint a new Chair to the SQA from 1st February 2017 and need someone who can ensure that the SQA’s policies and actions support the Scottish Ministers’ wider strategic policies and that its affairs are conducted with probity. Length of Appointment
The Chair will be appointed for a period of up to four years at the end of which the appointment may be renewed subject to satisfactory performance appraisal and the skills, knowledge and experience requirements of the Board at the time of renewal. Reappointment is not automatic.
The Chair will be required to contribute around 1 day per week to Board business (around 52 days per year). The Chair will be expected to attend and Chair all Board meetings and contribute to other Board business as required. There are usually seven Board meetings per year the majority of which take place on a Wednesday morning either in Glasgow or Shawfair Park, Midlothian. An indication of the sort of other Board business the Chair will be expected to carry out is provided in the Chair’s responsibilities and duties listed above.
The dates for Board meetings in 2017 are not yet available. However, the dates of meetings for 2016 are provided below which gives an indication of the spacing of meetings throughout the year.

Wed 18 May in Glasgow at 10.00
Wed 29 June in Glasgow at 10.00
Wed 17 Aug in Shawfair Park at 10.00
Wed 19 Oct in Glasgow at 10.00

The Chair appointment currently attracts a remuneration of £14,255 per annum and is non-pensionable. The Chair is entitled to the reimbursement of all reasonable travel and subsistence costs connected with appointment including reasonable receipted dependants’ carer costs.
Interviews will be held on 22nd (morning only) and 30th November 2016 in Edinburgh.
